Oct 2009 newsletter

September is nearly over, but it would seem as though summer is about to start, if the last couple of days are anything to go by.

We always look forward to this time of the year, as Oysters, Grouse and Partridge are back on the menu. (Grouse is now very limited but has been delicious!) Another very successful addition has been the Welsh Salt Marsh Lamb.

Our afternoon teas are coming along nicely, although it cannot be said we are rushed off our feet at the moment! Little acorns etc etc

WINE TASTING NEWS

Our Chardonnay wine tasting was a great success. We even had a few converts from the Sauvignon grape.

We now have had 2 pre lunch/supper tastings, and both have been well received. The first one was Chablis, and last Thursday’s was Bodegas Tobia from Rioja. These are free tastings for lunch and dinner customers and generally occur on the last Thursday of the month. Do give us a call nearing the end of the month to find out what’s on!

2 more award winning wines have been added to our ever changing list, and this time both from New Zealand-

Clifford Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2008 (I don’t think this wine can win any more trophies than it already has) and Cornerstone, 2005. Gimlett Gravels, Hawkes bay, Cabernet -Merlot-Malbec. This came 5th in a blind tasting of top Bordeaux and NZ wines.

There are two more evening tastings for you:-

ALSACE WINE TASTING AND DINNER – FRIDAY 2ND OCTOBER 2009
This will be a tutored tasting of delightful wines followed by a delicious supper, and hosted by Geoff Downing of Continental Wines. Cost £48 pp

BORDEAUX TASTING on FRIDAY 20TH NOVEMBER
Douglas Harrison of Harrison Vintners will give a brief overview of the period during which Bordeaux was under the English crown and the development of the vineyard which this brought about. This is a Doug speciality tasting and not to be missed, It will include supper and we have yet to finalise the menu. I don’t envisage the cost to be very different than usual. Again please call us nearer the time if our mail out fails!!!

CHRISTMAS DAY AND NEW YEARS EVE
We still have two tables of two left for Christmas Day although we are confirming tables this week. We have one private room and a few tables available on New Years Eve. Please ask for details

Kind regards

Peter and Jackie
